전세계에서 성매매 산업이 가장 활성화된 나라는

전세계 불법거래시장을 전문적으로 분석하는 미국기업 하복스코프(http://www.havocscope.com)가 최근 세계 각국의 연간 성매매 산업 현황을 발표했다.

이 발표에 따르면 성매매 산업 규모로 본 1위는 730억 달러의 중국(약 88조 700억 원), 그 뒤를 265억 달러의 스페인(약 31조 9700억 원), 240억 달러의 일본(약 28조 9500억 원), 180억 달러의 독일(약 21조 7000억 원), 146억 달러의 미국(약 17조 6100억 원)이 랭크됐고, 한국은 120억 달러(약 14조 4000억 원)로 조사대상 국가들 중 6위에 올랐다. 또한 성매매 종사자 수에서도 중국이 500만 명으로 1위를 차지하여 2관왕에 올랐고, 그 뒤를인도(300만 명)가, 미국은 100만 명으로 3위를 기록했다.

한편 1인당 성매매 지출 규모에서 한국이 세계 3위를 차지했다. 한국은 1인당 성매매 지출에서 약 240 달러(29만 원)로 1위 스페인(약 65만 원), 2위 스위스(약 51만 원)에 이어 3위에 올랐다.

1위 스페인의 경우 성매매에 대한 뚜렷한 규제가 없으며, 2위 스위스는 정부가 성매매 산업을 관리하고 있다. 성매매가 불법인 국가 중에서는 한국이 1인당 성매매 지출 1위를 기록한 셈이다.

하복스코프는 공공의료 프로그램, 사법기관 조사자료 등을 통해 국가 전체적 성매매 지출 규모 파악이 가능한 24개국에 한해 성매매 산업 시장가치를 산출해 비교했다고 밝혔다.
